Newsletter Grannies - No regrets...

Dear Ladies,

“Je ne regrette rien” – I have no regrets. A phrase sung in many languages and famously echoed by women such as Katharine Hepburn and Coco Chanel. Many people wish they could say the same about their own lives.

When people look back on their lives, they often regret not the things they did, but the things they never dared to do. Many wish they had fulfilled the dreams they once had when they were younger. Yet dreams can still come true later in life.

For anyone who did not have the opportunity to work as an au pair or travel as much as they would have liked in their younger years, Granny Aupair offers the chance to embark on this adventure now.

Thanks to your wealth of life experience, Grannies have already mastered many challenges and are open to discovering new horizons. In this newsletter, we would like to introduce you to two families from near and far who are looking forward to sharing the Granny Aupair experience with you.

And of course, you can find many more welcoming host families from around the world in our online community

Best wishes from

Your Michaela Hansen and your Granny Aupair-Team

Northern Germany’s picturesque Heathland

This wonderful heathland in northern Germany – the Lüneburger Heide -  is famous for its purple heather blossoms in late summer, its vast landscapes and traditional villages – not to mention the Heidschnucken sheep!

In the small town of Salzhausen, near the historic city of Lüneburg and just 35 kilometres from the metropolis of Hamburg, a small family (mum and her 1-year-old son plus their dog), using the username Susl, would like to welcome a loving,  toddler-experienced, animal-loving temporary grandma with a driving licence as a new family member to give mother a bit of a helping hand.

The little boy is still at home. A lovely room with a private bath in a large flat in a rural setting awaits the Granny. Travel expenses will be covered in full.

The Jewel of North Cyprus

With its unspoilt natural beauty and rich cultural and historical heritage Esentepe is often called the jewel of Northern Cyprus. This enchanting region with beautiful beaches is situated just a 15-minute drive from bustling Kyrenia.

Here a German-Englishspeaking family of four (user name Familie Zypern), who have just recently emigrated to Cyprus, with daughter 4 and son 1, is looking forward to having a loving, reliable, experienced temporary grandma as a new family member, to help the family in the new surroundings.

Both children are still at home at the moment. The family will be moving to a new house in the near future, where the Granny would have her own room, up to then the Granny would have an own apartment near the family’s flat.

The travel costs will be taken over in part.

Tips from the well-travelled Granny Marion:

  • I make sure the au pair arrangement remains a genuine cultural exchange — a two-way street — and I’m careful not to neglect my own personal time.
  • You also need to be open to different parenting approaches and food cultures rather than holding on too tightly to your own standards. I always do some research on the local culture beforehand and try to learn a few words of the language.
  • It’s also important to me to build a social network outside the host family, whether through the children’s schools, city tours, or online communities.
