Newsletter Grannies - Spontaneity brings Joy

Dear Ladies,

Plans provide a sense of security, but spontaneity brings joy. You can feel this in everyday moments - like running into an acquaintance on the street and deciding, on the spur of the moment, to have a coffee together. Doing something unplanned, without a particular reason, simply because you feel like it - this is not only enriching, but often a key ingredient for happiness. Researchers in neuroscience and well-being have explored and confirmed this idea.

Perhaps this will appeal to you on a spontaneous level: many of our families are currently looking for a Granny Aupair. Have you always dreamed of enjoying the peaceful charm of southern Sweden, or experiencing the rugged beauty of western Ireland? Or maybe you simply enjoy helping others and feel ready to try something new.

If you can imagine spending time in southern Sweden, or in Galway, Ireland, the families featured below - as well as many others in various countries on our online community  -would be delighted to hear from you.

Very best wishes from

Your Michaela Hansen and your Granny Aupair-Team

On the coast of Sweden’s ‘breadbasket’

Deep green forests and vast plains, rolling hills and dramatic cliffs characterise Skåne in southern Sweden. Known as Sweden’s ‘breadbasket’, the region is still strongly influenced by its Danish history.

From early June until around mid-August, a small English-German-speaking family (user name: Judith234123) with a two-year-old son is looking for a loving, toddler-experienced temporary grandma in the small village of Edenryd on the picturesque Valjeviken bay to give the parents a helping hand.

The family is moving to Sweden at the beginning of June, and as the nursery is closed during this period, they would be very grateful for some support for little Jonas.

The Granny will be provided with a large room with a private bathroom in a spacious house right by the sea. Travel expenses will be fully covered.

Magic of the Emerald Isle

With its wild Atlantic coastline, striking peninsulas like Dingle and Iveragh, and the iconic Ring of Kerry, County Kerry in the island’s south-west captures, for many, the true spirit of Ireland.

In the south of Kerry, in the village of Milltown, not far from Tralee and Killarney, a German-Irish family of veterinarians (user name Mareike St.) with two girls (aged 4 and 1) plus a dog and outdoor farm animals (including donkeys, cats and horses) would like to welcome their next loving, toddler-savvy Granny Aupair from the beginning of October.

The Granny should have a driving licence and, ideally, enjoy cooking. Support is needed mainly early in the morning and in the afternoons. The older girl attends school until 5.00 pm (on two days until 1.00 pm), whilst the little one attends nursery for three full days.

The Granny will be provided with a lovely, spacious room with (almost) own bathroom in a modern house on a farm in a rural setting. Travel costs will be partially covered and if wanted,  a language course will be gladly funded.
