Newsletter Grannies - It takes a whole village…
Dear Ladies,
There is an African proverb that says, “It takes a whole village to raise a child.” Even today, in many African countries, children grow up in large, multi-generational households where the responsibility for raising them is shared. In such environments, children learn from an early age to take on a role and accept responsibility.
Of course, for many families it doesn’t have to be an entire village - but a few helping hands can make all the difference. Perhaps yours could be among them?
Granny Aupair is built on the principle of reciprocity - just as the term “au pair” suggests. Families receive the support they truly need, while you, as a Granny Aupair, take on a role you already know and enjoy. Many Grannies tell us that this experience leaves them feeling refreshed, energized, and fulfilled. It broadens horizons on both sides when strangers become friends.
Today, we would like to introduce you some of our families who would be delighted to welcome a “temporary grandma ” and expand their village just a little further.
Very best wishes from
Your Michaela Hansen and your Granny Aupair-Team
Switzerland: On the banks of Lake Constance
Gentle hills, plenty of nature and Lake Constance right on the doorstep – that’s the canton of Thurgau in eastern Switzerland.
In the heart of Thurgau, right on the River Thur, you can find the small municipality of Bürglen with its beautiful old village centre and castle.
Here a family of four (user name: Family Iris K.) with two daughters (aged 4 and 1) and a dog is looking for a loving, reliable and independent temporary grandma with a driving licence to join the family as a new member and help out the mother a little, as the father is often away on business as a freelancer. The older daughter, Bella, attends nursery until midday; the younger daughter is still at home.
A lovely room with a private bathroom in a spacious flat within a rural setting awaits the Granny.

Westphalia: Vibrant, historic university city
The city of Münster in German North Rhine-Westphalia is a vibrant, multifaceted university city, known for its historic old town and its cycling culture.
Here, a small doctor’s family (mother with her 6-year-old son) and the user name AnneMH are looking forward to an experienced, warm and friendly temporary granny who can lend the mum a helping hand. Especially as there are no grandparents left. The boy is at nursery until 4 pm (and from September onwards, at school until around 4 pm).
The little boy has diabetes and would need to be given glucose tablets or juice if his blood sugar drops, naturally with proper training provided.
A lovely, spacious room in a house on the outskirts of town is available for the Granny. Travel expenses will be covered in full.

Once you’ve found a family, and if you’re still looking for a ‘follow-up’ family, please update your potential date of arrival (if you say you’re ‘flexible’, families will assume you’re available immediately). And very importantly: please let us know briefly by email which family you’re joining and when.
