Newsletter Grannies - Sharing life experience and skills worldwide

Dear Reader, dear Grannies,

Have you ever thought about using your life experience, your skills and your (native) language proficiency in a new environment? Granny Aupair offers you the opportunity to discover the world as a temporary grandma, to get to know new cultures and to support families all over the world with your skills - and has been doing so for 15 years!

As a Granny Aupair, you have valuable experience that is highly valued by many families. Whether it's childcare, helping with homework or simply being a loving caregiver - your skills are needed everywhere.

Many families, especially expats or families whose children attend international schools abroad, are also happy to have support with their children's language development. As a Granny Aupair, you can provide playful support with language acquisition, for example with the parents' native language or the language in the new environment.

Whether you would like to be a Granny Aupair for a few months, for longer or for a few weeks - there are many ways to start your Granny adventure. Become part of a unique community and experience a new way of travelling.

Below we introduce you to two families who are looking for a loving temporary grandma in the near future or later in the year.

Very best wishes

Michaela Hansen and Granny Aupair-Team

Companion in the City of Angels needed

Hollywood glamour, a relaxed surfing atmosphere and cultural highlights are the hallmarks of Los Angeles, where every neighbourhood has its own charm.

In Los Feliz, a neighbourhood spared by the recent fires, an American- (East-) Indian doctor’s family (username Rhkathri) is looking for a patient and loving companion who also enjoys cooking for their 79-year-old mother, who recently suffered a mild stroke. The mother  is not in need of care, mainly needs companionship e.g. walking and help with cooking as well as some assistance with relearning to speak (post stroke, but does not have to be professional help).

The Granny will have her own three-room flat in the centre of Los Feliz. All travelling expenses will be covered.

The Venice of Bavaria

In the Bavarian town of Passau on the three rivers Danube, Inn and Ilz, history and culture, art and adventure come together. The marvellous old town with its winding alleyways has an unmistakable atmosphere that makes Passau so beautiful. In the ‘Venice of Bavaria’, right on the Austrian border, there are many cultural and historical highlights to discover.

Here a family of four (username Natalie F.) with boy 6 and girl 3 would like to welcome their next experienced, loving, reliable temporary grandma with a driving licence from April to help look after the two little ones, as dad is often away on business and the mother works. The children go to school or nursery until early afternoon or 3.00 pm.

The Granny will be provided with her own small flat a few minutes' walk from the family in the city centre as well as a car. Travelling expenses will be covered in part.

15 years of Granny Aupair - 15 wonderful stories that we would like to present to you in the course of our anniversary year. Several thousand Grannies have travelled to over 50 countries and over 40% of them have travelled more than once - for instance to this family near Brussels, Belgium:

‘The Grannies have enriched our lives immensely’

„We have had Granny Aupairs for almost 3 years now and they have enriched our lives immensely. In our home country, Hungary, it is customary for grandparents to take part in daily life. We were able to fill this gap in our new home thanks to Granny Aupair. Not only our daughter, but also we parents have been able to learn a lot from the Grannies, for example we have changed our daily routine to make it more relaxed for everyone in the evenings and our daughter speaks fluent German thanks to the Grannies! Many of our Grannies keep coming back to help us. Thanks to a ‘Granny Aupair couple’, I was even able to meet up with old friends from my childhood, as they happened to be their neighbours. My advice to Grannies: ‘Please don't take everything personally if, for example, we as a family have certain household routines and want to maintain them.”

And if you also have something to tell us about your Granny trip, we would be delighted to receive your short report!
