Dear Reader, dear Grannies,

The older you are, the less willing you are to change something? This is certainly not the case for most of the generation between 50 and 75. A third of this age group would like to try something completely new in old age or have already started a new venture (according to a Forsa survey commissioned by the German Koerber Foundation). And 44 per cent are comfortable with the idea of starting something new.

Perhaps you are also thinking about bringing a breath of fresh air into your life with the zest of the new year – by the way our 15th anniversary year? Then why not try a new adventure as a Granny Aupair?

At the moment, many families from near and far are looking for a loving temporary granny to give them a bit of support. We would like to introduce you to three of them below.

In the Heart of Europe

The small kingdom of Belgium on the North Sea coast delights visitors from all over the world with delicious waffles and chocolate as well as medieval churches and inspires with its mix of dynamic, cultural diversity. The capital of Brussels offers many sights - including the Grande Place, the Atomium, the Manneken Pis and many beautiful streets to stroll along.

In the small municipality of Lillois, south-east of Brussels, in Walloon Brabant, a Belgian-Vietnamese family of four (username Hoa-Mi) with two daughters (13 and 11) and a dog are looking for their next experienced, animal-loving temporary grandma with a driving licence and a safe driving style, to help out the parents, ideally for longer. The two girls go to school until the afternoon, so Granny would have time to attend a language course and/or explore the beautiful neighbourhood.

A large granny flat in a spacious house in a rural setting will be made available to the Granny. All travelling expenses will be covered.

Spain: Between the mountains and Mediterranean Beaches

Snow-capped mountain peaks, towns steeped in history and the option of a beach holiday after hiking - the Spanish region of Sierra Nevada in Andalusia has a lot to offer.

In the small town of Mairena at the ‘gateway’ to the Alpujarra mountain region, a granny-experienced German-Portuguese family of four plus dog (user name Sven St.) is looking for their next loving, baby-experienced, nature-loving temporary grandma with a driving licence for two-year-old Kiaan and his little sister (then almost a year old) from the beginning of March 2025. Little Kiaan attends kindergarten until 14:00. A good knowledge of English would also be welcome.

A nice large room in a spacious house in a rural setting awaits the Granny. All travelling expenses will be covered.

Historical City of Music

Urban and edgy, but also a traditional city of trade fairs and home to some of the world’s most famous classical composers: the German Saxon city of Leipzig offers a wonderful mix of culture and inventive spirit with a long and eventful history.

Here a small family (mother and 8 year old son plus dog) with the user name Yasmin Mantey would like to welcome a flexible, animaloving, responsible Granny Aupair to give the mother a hand. As she works as a pilot the temporary grandma should be prepared to provide childcare when the mother is away. The little boy is at school until 15.30, so the Granny would have enough time to explore the fascinating city.

A nice room with a private bathroom in a large apartment in the city center is waiting for the Granny. The travel costs will be covered in full.

                                     "Until it’s time for ‚Granny‘ to return”

"I first came into contact with my new family in 2016 through the Granny Aupair agency: a German manager in Malaysia, his wife is Vietnamese. They were both looking for childcare for their sons, who were 2 and 4 years old at the time. Since then, I have spent seven months a year living with the family and five in my home town Luedenscheid in Germany. Three years in Malaysia were followed by three years in Dubai and now I've been in Thailand, in Bangkok, for over two years and the family has grown to include a little girl. I didn't want to leave after just three months, you have to build up a relationship. I go back home at regular intervals or travel around Asia on my own. Until it's time for ‘Granny’ to return.“
