Newsletter Grannies - Grandparents missing everywhere

Dear Reader, dear Grannies,

The combination of a lack of childcare options and rising costs overall means that grandparents are taking on many more caring responsibilities than ever before. In some cases, grandparents are even retiring early to enable their children to go to work - provided they live nearby. However, this is often not the case. This is particularly noticeable in the stressful pre-Christmas period – many would welcome an extra pair of experienced hands in the house to act as a calming influence amidst all the hustle and bustle.

More and more families are turning to a Granny Aupair - like the two from Austria we would like to introduce to you below. You can find many more families from all over the world on our online community

Best wishes for the Advent season

Historic town on the Danube

The Austrian Danube city of Linz creates a bridge between culture, nature and industry, which includes the Mariendom cathedral, castle, old town and harbour. Relaxing natural areas, wonderful excursion destinations and exciting cultural sites are also waiting to be discovered near the capital of the state of Upper Austria.

This is where a small Swiss-Bulgarian doctor's family (user name Emmanuella) with a twelve-year-old son would like to welcome their next loving temporary grandma. The boy goes to school until the afternoon, so the Granny would have plenty of time to explore the exciting city and wonderful surroundings.

A nice room in the family's large flat in the city centre or alternatively her own 3-room flat nearby awaits the Granny. All travelling expenses will be covered.

Natural Paradise in Southern Austria

And further south of Linz you can find the Villach region in the centre of Carinthia in southern Austria  with spicy-clear alpine air, clear lakes with drinking water quality, situated amongst extensive hiking and bike trails. The town of Villach with picturesque pedestrian zones and many cafés is the heart of the regon.

Here a granny-experienced small family of three (mum and two children girl 15, boy 12 plus Bernese dog Sunny and rabbits) with the user name dine is looking for her next animal-loving temporary grandma with a driver's licence to help mum out a bit, especially with dog and rabbit care. The two children go to international (Englishspeaking) school until the afternoon, so the Granny would also have time to explore the beautiful surroundings.

A large room with private bath in a big apartment on the outskirts of the town is waiting for the Granny. The travel costs will be covered in part.

Our tips:

It is important that the relationship is based on mutual trust and not on an employment contract. The host family and temporary grandma discuss the tasks involved together ideally beforehand.

When getting to know each other for the first time on the portal, you should therefore clearly state your own expectations and ask specifically about things that are unclear  e.g. about working hours, exact tasks, daily routine.

You can find these and many other tips for Granny Aupair on our website.
