Dear Reader, dear Grannies,

Mature people just know some things better! Quite simply because they have more life experience and are less easily rattled. That's the great advantage of a Granny Aupair, which many families appreciate.

And even if you haven't yet been blessed with grandchildren or your grandchildren are already grown up -  as a Granny Aupair you, too can enjoy being a grandma (again). Even if you haven’t got children of your own, you can make up for a lot of things as a Granny Aupair. Granny Liselotte writes: ‘I really enjoyed my days with little Raphaelle, for whom I was mainly responsible. She will be 1 year old next month and I have experienced the time of crawling and standing up with her. Such a young life is good for me.’

As a Granny Aupair, you also have the unique opportunity to explore the way of life in a foreign country or a different environment and possibly learn a different language.

To give you some ideas and inspiration, we would like to introduce you to three families who would like to welcome a lovely temporary grandma as soon as possible or even later in the year. You can find many more families on our online community. You can also find a report based on her experience from Granny Regina below.

Best wishes from

Your Michaela Hansen and your Granny Aupair-Team

The Magic of the Emerald Isle

Fascinating landscapes, ancient stone forts, megalithic tombs, plus a distinctive art, music and pub culture: In the beautiful west of Ireland, in Galway, the charming city on the edge of the Atlantic, a soon to be family of four (user name TeresaandJohn) with a one-year-old daughter and a baby from November is looking for a loving temporary grandma to stay from mid-September. The Granny should be experienced with small children and also possibly enjoy cooking and baking.

They are especially looking for support for little Rose before and when the new baby arrives. The Granny will be provided with a cosy room in a house in the city centre. Travelling expenses will be covered in part.

On the shores of Lake Geneva

Between Lake Geneva, the mountains and the view of the majestic Mont Blanc, the Swiss region of Morges offers countless facets to discover. On the shores of the lake, in the small municipality of Tolochenaz a small French/Italian-speaking family (mum and two sons 8 and 5) with the user name FT81 are looking for an experienced, patient temporary grandma with a driving licence to give the mother a helping hand.

The two boys go to school or kindergarten until late afternoon, so the Granny would have enough time to explore the wonderful neighbourhood and/or take a language course. A nice room in a large house on the outskirts of the town is waiting for Granny. The travelling expenses will be covered  in part.

In the heart of the Ozarks

National forests, historic sites, fishing and water sports, many hiking trails can be found in South-West Missouri, which is home to part of the  Ozark Mountains.

In the town of Fort Leonard Wood in Pulaski County a French-American family of soon to be five (user name AnnaUSA) with a boy, 5, and girl, 3, and a baby from September would love to welcome a flexible, outdoor loving Granny Aupair with a driving license to mainly help with the two older children.

The mother is also studying to be a midwife. Both children go to outdoor pre school until midday on three days a week.  A lovely room with private bath in a large house in a rural area is available for the Granny. The travel costs will be taken over completely.

Regina‘s Granny Aupair Adventure

Dear Granny Aupair-Team,

I would like to tell you briefly about my placement with a family of four in the heart of San Francisco. I was welcomed with open arms by extremely warm and empathetic parents who gave me the task of looking after their two-year-old daughter five days a week from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. I had both days of the weekend at my disposal. It was no surprise to me that I was fascinated by this unique city. In addition, my generous host parents made many extras possible for me, for example a spectacular tour in one of those driverless taxis, which took significant preparation from their side  or the wonderful offer to pick me up by car after a long, magical hike through the famous Muir Woods, which meant a two-hour journey for the father. My hosts obviously enjoyed making me happy. How marvellous!

But I hadn't expected my actual job of looking after these two girls to fill me with so much joy and satisfaction. The little girl and I very quickly became a great team, we understood each other without much ado and lived out our daily rituals such as watching garbage trucks, having a snack on our favourite bench or singing loudly together on our way to the playgrounds with mutual enthusiasm. Our emotional relationship grew imperceptibly, both during the day and on restless nights, and my greatest gift was her trust. The gratitude shown by the parents was also absolutely overwhelming. I have never experienced such appreciation in my life! So the mission of doing something useful and getting to know the world at the same time was a complete success! What an enriching adventure!

With kind regards

Your Granny Regina
