Dear Ladies,

Whoever goes a-travelling can tell many a story is the start of a famous poem by the German poet Matthias Claudius, and of course he was right! And in order for you to come back from your Granny Aupair adventure with as many wonderful experiences as possible, we would like to give you a few tips here.  

Read through the profiles of the families thoroughly! They usually give you a lot of information. If you prefer it quieter, then a family with three small children and possibly pets is rather unsuitable. You should rather look for families with one (older) child. Many families also have very specific ideas about "working hours". That's why it's very important to make precise arrangements in advance.

Before you finally decide on a family, talk to them in detail about your activities, free time, possible pocket money, etc. and about other things that are important to you. The better informed you are when you start your life as a Granny Aupair, the more you will be protected from unpleasant surprises!

Preparation is half the battle: Many countries have different customs and traditions than your home country. Perhaps you will be living in a culture that is very foreign to you. Take the time to prepare yourself and settle in. Perhaps the unfamiliar surroundings will be strange for you at first and you will need a little time to process the new impressions. Talk about it with your family or a trusted person!

Spectacular Nature and Northern Lights

Endless green forests, beautiful lake plains, a coastline full of archipelagos and the vast Arctic wilderness - Finland is incredibly rich in impressive natural experiences. In the west of this vast country you can find the small community of Yli-Valli.

Here a family of seven (username Katja S.) with five children (4 girls 8,7 and 3 years and 6 months as well as 1 boy, 5 years) plus dog is looking for a flexible, loving englishspeaking temporary grandmother with a driving licence, who ideally also enjoys cooking. The children are home-schooled by the mother, so she would need support especially with the youngest ones. A nice room in a big house in the rural area is waiting for the Granny. Travel expenses will be taken over in part.

Land of Fjords and Glaciers  

Also in the north, but further westwards in Norway, breathtaking landscapes with beautiful fjords, mountains and extensive beaches await you. The former European cultural capital of Stavanger in the southwest of the country offers a unique culture with lots of history and character and is surrounded by natural highlights, such as the world-famous Preikestolen Plateau.

Here, a granny-experienced small international family, Mother and a two-year-old twin couple (username Norway Express) as well as two Chihuahuas are looking for their next loving, helpful, life-experienced temporary Granny as from 10 January to give Mum a bit of a hand. Klara and Brage go to kindergarten until 16:00, so the Granny would also have time to explore the fascinating surroundings. A nice room in a large flat in the city centre is waiting for the Granny. The travel costs will be covered in full.

Mountain paradise in the Heart of Europe

Imposing mountains, picturesque lakes and idyllic alpine pastures: The Zillertal (Ziller Valley) in Tirol, Austria is one of the leading family destinations in the Alps. Surrounded by beautiful mountains the valley is full of magnicent scenery.

Here in the small town of Aschau a Czech-Austrian family of four (user name Kiara und Karlin) with 2 girls aged 10 and 7 is looking for an experienced, flexible Granny Aupair, who could maybe also stay for a longer period. The parents manage two restaurants and so the Granny’s help would mostly be needed in the afternoon and evening, with the girls already doing a lot very independently.  The older girl Kiara is at school until 16:00 and the younger one Karlin in the mornings. A lovely large room with private bath is available for the Granny. The travel costs are taken over in part.

Don't be put off if the arrival date in the family profiles is in the past!

Some families simply "forget" to change their profile date (which can happen with Grannies as well), but are still urgently looking for a Granny.

You can always send a contact request to the families you are interested in.
