Newsletter Families - How to find your Granny – Tips from the Granny Aupair-Team

Dear families,

We are really pleased – as the Granny Aupair community is growing steadily! Especially in the last few days we were able to welcome many new members – Grannies and Families. The fresh new year is seemingly bringing the necessary momentum to approach enterprises with gusto.

Maybe you have also already made plans for the new year? Unfortunately for many plans one would like to tackle, one needs one thing above all apart from discipline: time. And this is often in short supply in families with younger children: mostly it is hard enough to balance the job, raising children and the quality hours with the offspring under one hat, without realizing any further resolutions like doing more sports or further education.

Anyone who can count on the help of the grandparents is lucky. However, if even if you don’t have Grandma and Grandpa living close by, you do not have to do without good intentions. A responsible Granny Aupair will be happy to take on the tasks of the “natural” grandparents and support you in child care matters with her life experience, so that you can take up new projects.

At the moment around
80 temporary Grannies are looking for a new challenge at Granny Aupair – we want to introduce you to two of them below.

We wish you a healthy and happy new year

Your Michaela Hansen and your Granny Aupair Team

Spontaneous und active: Granny Petra

Granny Petra (user name Ollepedi) would like to travel preferably to an English-speaking country as from March 2017. The sporty 51-year old former bank clerk, who is very musical, has already had experience living as a Granny with a family abroad and is looking forward to being together with a new family and everything accompanying it. She would like to be a confidant, young Granny and ideally a good friend for the family.

Creative and open-minded: Granny Manuela

And also as from March 2017 creative and curious Granny Manuela (user name Beethoven1X) is looking forward to supporting a family. The former educator and curative teacher loves being outside and enjoys sewing and quilting. She has two adult children and has already experience as a “temporary Granny” with a small neighbor’s boy. The 64 year old horse fan is also very interested in increasing her language skills.

Eight tips for a successful Granny-search

To enable you to quickly find your ideal Granny, we want to give you some useful tips we were able to collect due to our experience of the last seven years:

  1. Take time for your search. After all you will be making an important decision.

  2. The best thing is to take a thorough look at all our Grannies.

  3. If you find Grannies interesting, but their specifications like length of stay and arrival date do not match your wishes, contact them anyway. A lot of things are negotiable and asking questions doesn’t cost anything!

  4. As long as the Grannies’ profiles are visible you can contact them, even if some specifications seem to be out of date.

  5. When you have received a contact request from Grannies please try and answer as soon as possible. The ladies are often quite excited and thus rather impatient.

  6. Search with heart and mind – before agreeing to a Granny’s coming, you should be clear about some of the details and conditions about your time together. Thus there will be no surprises later on and both sides will know what they are getting into. For advice also see www.granny-aupair.com

  7. Offer your Granny something! In addition to free board and lodging you can make your Granny very happy with charming additional incentives like taking over the travel costs or part of them, financing a language course or an invitation to a lovely meal together, a weekend trip or a holiday.

  8. Last but not least: Please bear in mind, our Grannies are not a replacement home help. They want to be treated like a family member – like a temporary grandmother – and be integrated into your family life.

Granny Aupair is an adventure for all participants. This encounter carries the promise of many beautiful opportunities to learn from each other. If you try to take our advice to heart then the Granny can become the heart of your family.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us by phone or mail. We are at your disposal with advice and deeds.
