Dear Grannies,

maybe you've seen the touching French movie "Ensemble, c'est tout" (Together, its everything) with the magical actress Audrey Tautou? A lovely image  –as loneliness affects many people: just in Germany around 17 million people live alone, and one in three people between the ages of 40 and 85 feel lonely. Loneliness can make you ill and even shorten your life. The United Kingdom has therefore even created its own ‘Ministry for Loneliness’. Japan followed with a similar ministry in 2021.

The good news is: you can influence how badly loneliness affects you. The renowned social loneliness researcher Jenny Gierveld, now 86, recommends: ‘Build up a circle of friends and nurture it.’ It is also good to have a hobby, such as learning a foreign language, or to seeking out new challenges. 

We would like to encourage you to set out, to get to know  other surroundings and new people. Have the experience of being needed. Currently, many families from near and far are looking for an experienced temporary grandmother or companion on our online community. We would like to introduce three of them to you below.

Urgently seeking Granny in picturesque Switzerland

Unspoilt nature, stunning landscapes and charming villages characterise the Swiss canton of Solothurn in the beautiful Jura region with its many castles.

In the small village of Däniken, nestled in a green hilly landscape between the cities of Aarau and Olten, a Spanish-Swiss family of four (username: Familie Salo) with a mother, a 14-year-old boy and two girls aged 10 and 5 are looking for a loving, reliable and experienced temporary grandmother who also enjoys cooking.

Help is needed mainly early in the morning and later in the afternoon. All children go to school or kindergarten until around 15:00. A nice room in a large flat in a rural setting will be provided for the Granny.

Bourbon City in the Bluegrass State

Culture,  arts and parks combining heritage with innovation charactarizes the so-called Bourbon City of Louisville in the US Bluegrass State of Kentucky.

Here an international doctor’s family of sometimes six (user name mshwang27) with 4 children (9 and 8, who are there 50 % of the time, plus girl 3 and boy 18 months) would like to welcome a toddler-experienced, flexible temporary grandma, to give the parents a hand. The little girl goes to pre-school until 14:00, the little boy is still at home. The mother works in the afternoons until the evening, so help would mostly be needed during that time.

A nice room with private bath in a large house in the suburbs is waiting for the Granny. The travel costs will be taken over completely.

Historic Spa Town in North-East Germany

Bad Belzig is a historic natural mineral saline Spa town in the North East German state of Brandenburg. With a beautiful old town and a state-of-the art spa the town is surrounded by the natural reserve Hoher Fläming, but is also not far from Potsdam and Berlin.

In a nearby village a family of four (user name APreu) with girl 6 and son 4 plus dog is looking forward to a supportive, experienced and patient Granny Aupair with a driving license as soon as possible and ideally for longer.  Both children go to school/kindergarten in the mornings. 

The family lives a large house with a big garden, an own apartment for the Granny on the grounds will be finished very soon, up to then the Granny will have a large cozy guest room. The travel costs will be taken over completely.
