Newsletter Grannies - Granny is great...

Dear Ladies,

„Grandma is great, but she's so far away" – this is a common phrase heard among many families these days. In the past, people simply had more contact with the older generation. Families often lived close to each other, and older children did not move to another city immediately after school. Regular visits to the grandparents were simply part of family life then.

Today, many children rarely see their grandparents because they do not live in the same town or even in the same country or have already sadly passed away. Yet it is so important that children have many different attachment figures: Siblings and friends, mum and dad, but also grandparents. Grandma and Grandpa often have an open ear and a lot of time to spend with the little ones. Often they are the first to recognize talents and gifts that lie dormant in the children because they have the time to creatively engage with them.

Granny Aupair helps to fill this gap, so that children whose grandparents live far away or are perhaps no longer alive, still can enjoy the benefits of an older experienced caregiver and the parents also get a bit of breathing space.  Below we are introducing you to four families who are looking forward to a loving temporary grandmother as a new family member in the near future or even for next year.

In addition to these families  many other families are waiting for their temporary granny. Just take a look in our online community.

Very best wishes from your

Michaela Hansen und Granny Aupair-Team

Gateway to the world: Urgently looking for a temporary Granny, even for a short period

The historic Hanseatic city of Hamburg is a metropolis with many facets: from the harbour on the Elbe and the Elbphilharmonie concert hall to the Reeperbahn, the Alster lakes and river and the beautiful city park, there is plenty to discover.

In the north of Hamburg you can find the beautiful district of Wellingsbüttel, directly on the Alster river. Here, a family of four (username: SvB) with two-month-old twin boys and a dog would like to welcome a loving, cordial temporary grandmother as soon as possible, even for a short transitional period, to take some of the load off the parents as a "good soul". The parents often have to attend evening events for work reasons, so it would be nice if the Granny could also look after the little ones then . A nice big room with private bath in a spacious house is waiting for the Granny. Travel costs will be covered in full.

Canals, Tulips and Culture

The "Venice of the North" combines canals, coffee shops and world-famous museums: the Dutch metropolis of Amsterdam has an international flair and offers something for every taste. Here, a Granny-experienced German-Dutch family (username: Bouwmanfamily) with two children (girl 6 and boy 2) and two cats is looking for a loving, reliable temporary Granny to help out the parents a bit. Both children go to school or kindergarten until the afternoon, so the Granny would also have enough time to explore the exciting surroundings. A nice room with its own bathroom awaits the Granny in a large flat that extends over three levels. The travel costs will be covered completely.

Historic town in the land of Vinyards and Traditions

Situated in the beautiful Rhône area of France, also known as the Capital of French gastronomy, as well as for its vinyards and traditions, the small town of Arnas in the vicinity of Lyon is full of charm and history. Here a family of five (three girls, 14, 12 and 8 and a dog) with the user name Priscille is looking for a flexible, experienced Granny Aupair with a driving license as from the beginning of January. Both parents work in the entertainment industry and are on the road for around 2 days a week. The girls go to school until the afternoon (except Wednesday which is free/short school day in France). A lovely large room with private bath is provided for the Granny.

The best thing to do is to be inspired by everything on offer! Don't pay too much attention to the  respective country. In the end, the people you go to are more important. Once you have made a contact request, you first need a bit of patience. It often takes a few days or even weeks for families to get back to you. The families are very busy or even collect a few requests first before they reply.
