The New Year and it’s resolutions are still fresh in our minds. And all around the world the New Year is still not finished: January 25th, for example, saw the beginning of Chinese New Year, this time with the Year of the Rat. It is said that the Year of the Rat will bring us creative energy, an energy that can manifest itself by fulfilling many things you want in your life. You will have the certainty that anything is possible, that you are the creator of your own life and that you have the power to be whoever you want to be. 

For many women aged 50plus, going abroad as a Granny Aupair  is one of the things they want to fulfill  in their lives. Around the globe, from Asia, Northern and Southern Europe and the USA to "Down Under", many new families are now looking for a loving replacement Granny, who will support them with advice and assistance as soon as possible or later on the year – we are introducing three of them below.

English Country Feeling  

 

In the picturesque English county of Shropshire, not far from the Welsh border, between the historic town of Shrewsbury and the centre of the British pottery industry in Stoke-on-Trent, lies the scenic market town of Market Drayton, with its mix of Georgian and Victorian houses.

Here a single father (aviation industry) with the user name willrobley19 and two daughters (17 and 12) are looking for a life experienced Granny Aupair with a driving licence as soon as possible to help them out. The two girls go to school until afternoon and early evening respectively, so the Granny can attend a language course and enjoy the culture and excursions in the area. A nice room in a house on the outskirts of town is provided. The travel expenses will be covered in full.

Untamed Irish West coast 

And a bit further West, across the Irish Sea, in wildly romantic County Cork in Ireland a family of four (user name Carol f.) with two girls (8 and 6) is looking for support from a Granny with driving license as from Mid March.

A beautiful coastline, delicious food and one interesting town after another: This is all offered by West Cork in the Emerald Isle. The family lives in Glanmire, near the city of Cork and close to the sea on the Irish Atlantic coast The girls go to school until the afternoon, and as the mother works two days a week the help of the Granny would mainly be needed on those two days. On the other days she would have enough time to explore the lovely surroundings. A large room with private bath in a house in rural surroundings is waiting for the Granny. The travel expenses will be covered in full.

Beautiful Costa Dorada  

 

Nestled between the sea and mountains on the Costa Dorada near Barcelona the lovely small town of Sitges offers heritage, culture, nature, festivals, traditions – to be enjoyed all throughout the year. It is also close to the Capital of Catalonia where various sightseeing highlights, shopping opportunities and beautiful beaches can be enjoyed. Here a small grannyexperienced family with the user name Bianca Sch. (mother and two year old Mila )is looking for their next loving temporary grandmother as from March.  Little Mila already goes to nursery, the mother is away as a flight attendant on 15 days a month and thus needs someone who already has experience and fun with small children. A lovely room in an apartment in the centre of Sitges is available for the Granny.

Ten Years of Granny Aupair – How it all began …

In the beginning there was a dream: Wouldn't it be wonderful if life-experienced women of the generation 50 plus set out into the world, overcoming national borders, language barriers and cultural hurdles?

Without a business plan, but with courage and commitment, Michaela Hansen put her idea into practice ten years ago: With an appeal in the media "Granny wanted as an au pair for Canada", the Granny Aupair agency www.granny-aupair.com was launched in January 2010 – at that time the first of its kind worldwide.


A few months later, the first Granny Aupair went on her journey. Destination: Canada. Since then, many thousands of Grannies have travelled to more than 50 countries around the world to live with families in the host country or as volunteers in social projects for a longer period of time. It is not uncommon for real, long-lasting friendships to develop between the temporary Grannies and "their" families. And maybe you will be next? 

 

Becoming a Granny Aupair is totally easy – this is how it works:

As a subscriber to our newsletter you are already registered for free. You can log into the secure area and browse through the profiles of our families with no further obligation.

·  Become a member

As a member of Granny Aupair you can then get in contact with other members. For this purpose you just click on the “Become a member” button in our community-section and pay your membership fee easily by PayPal or bank transfer. Tip: Upon payment with PayPal your profile is activated straight away and you can contact our Families & co. immediately. 

·  Finding your way abroad

As a member of Granny Aupair you can now get in touch with the families and co. They can then also view your profile and contact you. You decide who may see your contact details. Write, phone or skype in detail with the families who are on your short list. Maybe you can also organize an introductory meeting. Get to know each other thoroughly and discuss the precise arrangements of your stay (accommodation, responsibilities and daily routine, coverage of travel costs, pocket money etc.). Is the chemistry right? Then get your things together and you’re off!
