Newsletter Grannies - Back to school - with Granny Aupair

Dear Ladies,

In many countries, preparations are already underway for the period after the summer holidays: a new school year is about to begin, some children are starting nursery or changing schools – and for many families, this means one thing above all else: organising, planning and restructuring their daily routines. Juggling work, school, leisure time and family life is often a real challenge.
It is precisely at this time of year that many families would love to have a ‘temporary granny’ to offer them loving support. Our Granny Aupairs are true everyday heroes: they play, do crafts, sing and bake with the children, take them to school or nursery, pick them up again, and sometimes help with cooking or with day-to-day family life. In this way, they provide parents with valuable respite – and give the children time, attention and a sense of security. It’s not uncommon for friendships to develop that last well beyond the time spent together.

Granny Aupair is based on the idea of reciprocity – very much in keeping with the concept of an au pair. Families receive the support they need at that moment, and you can contribute your life experience, your enjoyment of spending time with children and your time in a meaningful way. Many of our Grannies say that their time as a Granny Aupair makes them feel rejuvenated and full of new energy.

Today we’d like to introduce you to four families who are looking forward to welcoming a Granny as a new member of their family very soon – or next year. You can find many more families on our online-community

Best summery wishes

Your Granny Aupair-Team

At the foot of the Rocky Mountains

Salt Lake City, the urban heart of the US state of Utah, was one of the host cities for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Also known as ‘Ski City’, the city lies at the foot of the Rocky Mountains and offers a wealth of attractions for art and culture lovers.

Here, an active doctor's family of four (user name: Sherron) – with a 4-year-old girl, a 1-year-old boy and a dog, are looking forward to welcoming their next experienced and reliable temporary grandma who holds a driving licence. The main aim is to support the mother, who is occasionally away on business. Both children attend nursery or pre-school until the afternoon, so the Granny would have plenty of time to explore the exciting surroundings.

The Granny will be provided with a lovely room with private bathroom in a spacious house in the city centre. Travel expenses will be covered in full.

Sun City in the Lone Star State

And further south in El Paso, Texas, nestled at the foot of the impressive Franklin Mountains, a very granny-experienced French-American family (user name AnnaUSA) with three children (two sons aged 6 and 1, and a daughter aged 4) are looking forward to their next relaxed, positive and open-minded 'bonus-grandma" with a driving licence from mid-November onwards.

The family will soon be moving from Oklahoma to the El Paso which combines centuries-old Indigenous, Spanish and Western heritage with year-round sunshine and a lively festival scene. The mother will be able to continue her training as a midwife there. The family will be living in the large house belonging to the father's parents who both work full-time. The children will mostly be at home, though the two older ones may also attend a small school in El Paso, possibly twice a week.
The Granny will have a lovely room in the spacious house on the outskirts of the city. Travel costs will be covered in full.

It is important that the relationship is based on mutual trust rather than a formal employment contract. The host family and the temporary grandmother decide together which tasks are needed.

When getting to know each other for the first time on the portal, you should therefore communicate your expectations clearly. If anything is unclear — for example working hours, specific tasks, or the daily routine — don’t hesitate to ask precise questions.
