Newsletter Grannies - The important role of (temporary) Grandparents
Dear Grannies,
According to a recent survey by the online language learning platform Preply, grandparents play a central role in the lives of children and young people – as confidants, advisors or simply as good friends. They provide support in stressful moments and contribute significantly to their well-being. Almost 50 per cent of the surveyed even said they would rather turn to their grandparents than their parents when seeking advice.
This special role is also taken on by our Granny Aupairs as ‘temporary grandmothers’. Many families whose grandparents live far away or have already passed away would like to have a loving temporary grandmother who enriches everyday family life with her experience, patience and warmth – be it soon or even next year. Today, we would like to introduce you to two of our families.
Many more inspiring family profiles from around the world, who are looking for a loving Granny Aupair can be found in our online community.
Very best wishes from
Your Michaela Hansen and Your Granny Aupair-Team
New York, New York!
A world-famous skyline, the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan, Times Square, Broadway and much more are waiting to be discovered by you.
In trendy East Village situated in the fascinating Big Apple, a small German-American diplomat’s family (username Anna F) with a one-year-old daughter would like to welcome their next loving, experienced and open temporary grandmother, who perhaps also enjoys cooking, as a new member of the family.
Little Amalia goes to nursery until noon, so the Granny would also have time to explore the exciting surroundings and/or visit a language course.
A beautiful room with its own bathroom in a large flat in the centre of Manhattan will be provided for the Granny. Travel costs will be covered in full.

Historic city in Dutch North Brabant
With its Gothic cathedral neo-Gothic buildings, Dutch Classicism and charming inner city, the pittoresque capital of the Dutch region of North Brabant, S’Hertogenbosch, offers a whole range of activities, as well as being close to Eindhoven and Utrecht.
As from the beginning of January a family of four with girl, 3, and boy, 1 year old and the user name dutchfamily is looking for a loving, experienced Granny Aupair, to speak English with the children, and ideally with a bit of Waldorf/Steiner background (but no prerequisite).
The family would also offer an online language course, in case the Granny is not a native English speaker. Both children are still at home, the Granny’s help would mostly be needed on two full days a week and less hours on other days.
A nice room in a house in the outskirts of the city is waiting for the Granny. The travel costs will be taken over in full.

Stay open-minded and never lose your sense of humour!
A very good tip from Marion, who has often been away as a Granny Aupair:
"For me, Granny Aupair is a wonderful opportunity to really immerse myself in another culture, to participate in everyday family life, to belong. In my opinion, you can learn a lot from this. It taught me to be calm!!! And it's extremely interesting to experience the lifestyle of another culture. My tip for Granny Aupairs: stay young at heart, dare to try new things, stay open-minded and never lose your sense of humour!"
