Newsletter Grannies - Finding your Dream-Family – Tips from the Granny Aupair-Team

Dear Reader, dear Grannies,

On the way to your dream destination or dream family, we would like to give you a few useful tips that we have gathered over the course of our 15 years of experience:

  1. Profile complete and up to date?

A profile should provide a good overview and be easy for the reader to understand and read. Avoid long, confusing texts and unnecessary repetitions. You can write something about yourself in the free text fields. Ideally in German and English or another language (Deepl or Google translate can  help here). Remember, not everyone can speak perfect English. Make sure you keep your profile up to date to avoid disappointment. For example, if you are looking for a family for a later date, please update the date you are looking for.

  1. Photos uploaded?

Make sure you place attractive photos in your profile. Remember that often the whole family, including the children, will choose a Granny (and vice versa). A variety of photos in different contexts (e.g. with dog, cat, own grandchildren, doing sports, on holiday) are certainly helpful here to get a first impression. Profiles without a photo are rarely viewed.

  1. Details do not match?

As long as the families' profiles are visible, you can contact them, even if their details appear to be out of date. If you find families interesting but their details, e.g. length of stay and arrival date, do not match your expectations, we recommend that you contact them anyway. Members are often looking for several Grannies in succession. Many things are negotiable and it costs nothing to ask!

  1. Active enough?

Make the most of your membership and be active. The more actively you seek contact, the greater your chances of a successful match will be.

  1. Received a contact request?

If you have received a contact request, try to reply as quickly as possible, even if it is a refusal. You are welcome to write an explanation.

  1. Agreed on expectations and requirements?

Search with heart and mind - before you commit to a family, you should agree on the essential requirements for your time together. This way, there will be no surprises later on and both sides will know what you are getting into. Families rely on you and cancelling at short notice will cause difficulties.

  1. Personal attitude checked?

As a Granny, you should not try to impose your way of life and views on the family. Tolerance, politeness and friendliness are important - and that goes for both sides!

  1. Found your family?

When you have found your family, please send us a short email and tell us where you are going. This will help us to keep the community up to date.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us by phone or e-mail. We will be happy to help and advise you. Below we are also introducing you to a few of our families, who would like to welcome a temporary grandma in the near future.

Best wishes from

Your Michaela Hansen and Your Granny Aupair-Team

Idyllic vineyard in the German Rhine-Selz region

Nestled between the Rhine and the rolling hills of the Rhine-Hessian wine landscape, the Rhine-Selz region in Germany  is home to historic towns on the banks of the river and idyllic wine villages in the hinterland.

In the historic wine village of Uelversheim, a vinter family of four (user name StefanieD) with two sons (4 and 2) would like to welcome their next warm-hearted, patient, experienced temporary grandma as soon as possible to help out the family, especially in the afternoons and sometimes at weekends.

The two boys go to nursery school or the childminder until early afternoon, so the Granny would also have time for herself. A large room with its own bathroom on a beautiful vineyard in a rural setting awaits the Granny. Travelling expenses will be covered in part.

15 years of Granny Aupair - 15 wonderful stories that we would like to present to you in the course of our anniversary year. Several thousand Grannies have travelled to over 50 countries and have provided families worldwide with help and advice, such as  this family from San Francisco:
                                             “A friend for life“

We are a family of 4 based in San Francisco. We are currently hosting one of your Granny Aupairs. It already feels like she is part of the family. Aside from being amazing with the children, she is warm, flexible and has the kindest of a thousand angels. I wish there was a way she could stay forever! I worked in the au pair industry for years so I know how difficult it can be. You have given us a friend for life.

Thank you!
