Newsletter Grannies - What to expect
Newsletter Grannies - What to expect
Dear Reader, dear Grannies,
Today we would like to give you a few tips to ensure that your expectations of being a Granny Aupair are fully met.
The family profiles already provide a lot of information. If you don't want too much hustle and bustle, then a family with three small children and possibly pets is obviously not for you. It's better to look for families with one (older) child.
Are you able to keep yourself busy on your own (important if the family lives further away from town or in the countryside) or do you prefer a lively environment? Do you prefer city or country life or do you simply want to try something completely new? These things are also part of the decision-making process.
Before you finally decide on a family, talk about your working hours, free time, any pocket money and other things that are important to you. The better informed you are when you start your Granny Au Pair life, the better protected you are against unwelcome surprises. Prepare yourself for the country you are travelling to. As they say, other country, other customs.
Also bear in mind that families rely on you and cancellations at short notice pose major problems for them.
Below we are introducing you to two families, who are looking for a Granny soon or a bit later. You can find many more families on our online community.
Best wishes from
Your Michaela Hansen and Your Granny Aupair-Team

Located in the Appalachian Mountains, the US state of West Virginia has a huge number of national parks and forests to offer, making it a true paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. There are also many historic sites, beautiful shopping districts with locally produced handicrafts and farms serving fresh regional dishes to be discovered.
In the small town of Harpers Ferry on the Potomac River north of Washington D.C., an international diplomat family of four (two daughters 3 years and currently 6 months) with the username Isabel B. would like to welcome a flexible, warm-hearted, ideally German or Italian-speaking temporary grandma as a new family member from the beginning of July. Little Luisa goes to kindergarten for a few mornings, baby Mathilda is still at home.
A large, quiet room in a spacious house in a rural setting is waiting for the Granny. All travelling expenses will be covered.

Fiesta Mexicana
In the centre of Mexico, at an altitude of 2,200 metres in a valley surrounded by gigantic mountain ranges, you can find the country's capital, Mexico City. The ‘sun of Mexico’, enriched with a huge cultural diversity, is considered a megalopolis, and yet each ‘colonia’ has its own characteristics, like a small village.
Here, an international granny-experienced German-English-Mexican family of five (user name LiaFain) with 2 daughters, 5 years and currently 1 year, and a 3-year-old son, would be very happy to welcome their next experienced, loving, temporary grandma, mainly for the two older children (little Zoe has a Nanny). Emma and Oli go to kindergarten until the afternoon, so the Granny would have enough time to attend a language course and/or explore the exciting surroundings. The family lives in a beautiful green neighborhood of the metropolis.
A nice room with its private bath in a spacious house awaits the Granny. Travelling expenses will be covered in part.

Historic Countryside in German Lower Saxony
With its wide landscapes, tranquil lakes and charming small towns, the Oldenburg region in German Lower Saxony is very popular with nature lovers.
In the small historic municipality of Harpstedt south of the hanseatic city of Bremen, a small family of three (user name Lara-Christin) with a 3 year old daughter is looking forward to a natureloving, warmhearted Granny Aupair, to help a bit with little Insa, as the parents work shifts. The little girl goes to kindergarten until the afternoon, so the Granny would have enough time to explore the beautiful surroundings and Bremen.
A nice room in a large apartment in a rural setting is made available for the Granny. The travel costs will be taken over completely.

Our Tip:
Make lots of contact requests and be flexible! If you like a family but their details, e.g. length of stay and arrival date, don't match your expectations, then contact them anyway, because often something has changed with the families, they have simply forgotten to change their profile date or they are looking for several Grannies in a row. Many things are negotiable and it costs nothing to ask!
If you receive contact requests and you already have chosen a family or you don't think it's the right one, please write a few words back, even if it's a refusal. That way, the family won't be waiting for an answer and won't be irritated.
