Dear Reader, dear Grannies,

Becoming a Granny Aupair also requires a little flexibility and a sense of adventure to make the project a success - after all, strangers are meeting for the first time. The host family is taking an unknown person into their home - in other words, into their very private environment. For Granny Aupairs, too, many uncertainty factors come together in unfamiliar surroundings. Dreams and reality don't always match up. Anyone who leaves their comfort zone should definitely be open to new things and adaptable!

In any case, it is helpful to discuss mutual expectations thoroughly before making a firm commitment to a family. That way, you are somewhat forearmed against unwelcome surprises.

Below we are introducing you to three families from all over the world who are looking for the support from the life experience and expertise of a temporary grandma soon or already for next year. In addition to these, you can many other families from near and far on our online community.

Very best wishes from

Your Michaela Hansen and your Granny Aupair-Team

Magical Emerald Isle

County Meath in the centre of Ireland, is home to centuries of unique history and culture.  Close to the famous Boyne Valley you can find the historic town of Kells with its marvellous sights. The Irish capital of Dublin is also not far away.

In Kells a small family (mother with 2 year old daughter and another baby from November) with the user name Roísín is looking for a loving, toddler-experienced temporary grandma with a driving licence to help mum with little Aideen as soon as possible.

The little girl goes to the crèche until 17:00, so the Granny's help is mainly needed in the mornings and evenings and she would have enough time to attend a language course and/or explore the picturesque surroundings. The Granny will be provided with a nice room in a spacious house on the outskirts of the city.

Rocky Mountain Country

In the east of the USA, in the Rocky Mountain state of Colorado, the historic town of Arvada can be found between Denver and Boulder. Surrounded by miles of hiking and cycling trails and close to numerous ski and mountain sports centres, the town has a lively ‘Old Town’ with numerous restaurants, cafés, galleries and shopping opportunities.

As from January, a small Italian-American family (username lburns731) with a 1 year old daughter and a dog is looking for their next experienced, dynamic temporary grandma to provide some support for the parents. Ideally, the Granny should also speak some Italian or Spanish.

A separate flat with kitchen and bathroom next to the family's spacious house on the outskirts of town is waiting for the Granny. The travelling expenses will be covered in full.

Granny on two continents

Castles, mountains, a lively capital and a wonderful wine country! Luxembourg in the centre of Europe has a little bit of everything. Or would you like to visit the exciting Big Apple with all its marvellous sights?

As from March next year, a small family with the user name Bacina21 (mother with son, 4, and a currently 3-month-old daughter), who commute between New York and Luxembourg or, as from autumn, the Netherlands, would like to welcome their next loving, experienced temporary Granny, who also enjoys cooking, as a new family member from March.

A nice room with a private bathroom in a large flat in Luxembourg or in a house in New York is waiting for the Granny. All travelling expenses will be covered.

Find out in advance when you will have free time at your disposal.  Are you invited to take part in family activities or does the family also want to have time for themselves?

In the beginning, living together will probably be just as unfamiliar for you as it is for the family - give each other time and be patient if things have to settle down first.
