Newsletter Grannies - Grandma is great….

Dear Reader, dear Grannies,

„Grandma is great, but she's so far away" – this is a common phrase heard among many families these days. In the past, people simply had more contact with the older generation. Families often lived close to each other, and older children did not move to another city immediately after school. Regular visits to the grandparents were simply part of family life then.

Today, many children rarely see their grandparents because they do not live in the same town or even in the same country or have already sadly passed away. Yet it is so important that children have many different attachment figures: Siblings and friends, mum and dad, but also grandparents. Grandma and Grandpa often have an open ear and a lot of time to spend with the little ones. Often they are the first to recognize talents and gifts that lie dormant in the children because they have the time to creatively engage with them.

Granny Aupair helps to fill this gap, so children whose grandparents live far away or are perhaps no longer alive, still can enjoy the benefits of an older experienced caregiver and the parents also get a bit of breathing space. Below we are introducing you to three families who are looking forward to a loving temporary grandmother as a new family member in the near future or even for next year.

In addition to these families  many other families are waiting for their temporary granny. Just take a look in our online community.

Very best wishes from

Your Michaela Hansen and your Granny Aupair-Team

Fiesta Mexicana

In the centre of Mexico, at an altitude of 2,200 metres in a valley surrounded by gigantic mountain ranges, you can find the country's capital, Mexico City. The ‘sun of Mexico’, enriched with a huge cultural diversity, is considered a megalopolis, and yet each ‘colonia’ has its own characteristics, like a small village.

Here, an international German-English-Mexican family of five (user name Liafain) with 2 daughters, 4 years and currently 6 months, and a 2-year-old son, would be very happy to welcome an experienced, loving, temporary grandma. The two older children go to kindergarten until the afternoon, so the Granny would have enough time to attend a language course and/or explore the exciting surroundings. The family lives in a beautiful green neighborhood of the metropolis.

A nice room with its private bath in a spacious house awaits the Granny. Travelling expenses will be covered in part.

New York State: In the heart of the Catskill Mountains

Nestled between the highest peaks of the Catskill Mountains and the green Hudson River Valley,  the picturesque Greene County is just two hours north of New York City and three hours west of Boston.

In the small town of East Jewett, a small Swedish-American granny-experienced family (user name Maria.m) with an almost one-year-old girl plus cat and 2 horses is looking for support from the end of October (and then again from January) from a loving, fit temporary grandma with a driving licence. Both mothers work partly from home, so that one is almost always on site.

A lovely room with private bathroom in a large house in a rural setting awaits the Granny. Travelling expenses will be covered in full.

Multicultural, colourful and diverse

Castles, mountains, a lively capital and wonderful wine country! Luxembourg, in the centre of Europe, has a little bit of everything to offer.

In Beggen, a quarter in the North of the capital, a small French-speaking family (Mama and 3 year old boy) with the user name Mamanzen would like to welcome an experienced, patient and warm Granny Aupair with a driving license, who maybe also likes to cook, ideally from the beginning of October.

Little Alexandre goes to nursery school until the late afternoon, so the Granny’s help would mainly be needed in the evenings and on two Saturdays a month. The Granny will have nice room in a spacious house in the outskirts of the capital. Travelling expenses are covered in part.
