Dear Mrs Hansen and team,
I arrived in Australia exactly one month ago, on 23 June.
I quickly took little Gytta into my heart and I also get on very well with her mum Gerlinde. My job of speaking only German with Gytta is working out really well. I often pick her up from kindergarten on foot. On our 2 km walk home, we have lots of time to talk. When we play with dolls, go to the playground, read aloud, paint, cook or bake, we learn many new words.
The external circumstances are sometimes a real challenge for me. For example, the cold in the house can only be dealt with by wearing several layers of jumpers, wool socks and lambskin slippers, warm duvets at night and a well-stoked stove in the open living, dining and kitchen areas. It's winter in New South Wales! Good training for the cold season at home, when we will probably all be saving heating energy.
Gerlinde and Gytta will return to London at the end of August and I will then spend three weeks travelling around beautiful Australia on my own before my visa expires. I am really looking forward to that.
Dorothee
