Dear Families,

in this day and age, the children as well as the job – be it in the home office or at the work place - often have to take a back seat. This often leads to dissatisfaction or possibly the feeling of not being able manage everything – making parents realize that there can't be enough hours in the day. It takes a lot of skill and organisational talent to combine these two important areas of life so that nobody gets a raw deal.  How great it would be to have a few helping hands to support you with all the tasks, especially if your own parents live far away.

A Granny  Aupair can rescue young families’ time management. It's fantastic for the children: the granny has time and listens, tells stories and plays games,  does handicrafts, bakes, sings, paints and has lots of fun ideas. The little ones learn a lot without getting bored. And the parents benefit even more – e.g. with more time for themselves.

At the moment around 40 Grannies are looking for a nice family whom they can support with life experience and gusto. We are introducing two of them below.

Experienced and patient: Granny Elisabeth  

Granny Elisabeth (user name 1appenzell2) from Switzerland is looking forward to helping a family from mid-September. The 62 year old child protection worker already was abroad as an au pair as a young girl and would love to repeat the experience – preferably in Europe or Asia. She will be going into early retirement in May to enjoy new adventures and loves cooking, hiking and travelling. In her profile she writes: “Getting to know new people, sharing everyday life with them, being with children and taking care of them in everyday life. I would also like to gain a deeper insight into life in the host country.”

Versatile and sporty: Granny Gudrun

Granny Gudrun (user name Denimqueen) would like to support a family – preferably in an English-speaking country – from the end of July. The 63-year-old nursery school teacher, who will retire soon, is very sporty, loves nature and music.  In her profile, the mother of adult children writes: "I would like to be part of the family, feel comfortable but also be allowed time for myself. Trust, mutual appreciation and open communication are important to me. I am looking forward to many new experiences and impressions in my new environment."

Please bear in mind that our Granny Aupairs need a little more advance notice than a young Aupair, because they have to arrange a lot more for their stay than a young au pair, where often the parents are still caring for house and home.

Of course, there are also Grannies who can spontaneously drop everything to travel. In general, however, it is advisable to start looking for a Granny Aupair in good time so that both sides have enough time to prepare.
