People all over the world use the day to demonstrate their love and affection with small gifts, notes and gestures not only in Germany but practically all over the world. Since the 14th century this day has already been documented as a festival of love and since the 18th century it has also been used as an opportunity to present loved ones with flowers and greeting cards. Dolomiti Mountain Dream

In the North Italian town of Belluno, which is steeped in history, the Dolomite Mountains  are never far away, beckoning to all to practice a bit of mountain sport: Be it hiking, skiing or just enjoying the spectacular views. The town is also near beautiful woods, lakes and National Parks in the province of Veneto. Here a family of five (user name Riccardo) with three girls (12, 10 and a baby) is looking for a loving temporary Granny as from the beginning of April. The two oldest are at school until the afternoons.A lovely room with private bathroom in a large house in the centre of the adorable town is made available for the Granny. The travel costs will be taken over in part.

Beautiful Land’s End 

Majestic cliffs, rocky coves, sandy beaches, crystal clear seas not forgetting sub-tropical vegetation and a wealth of industrial and maritime heritage: located on the shores of Mount's Bay only 10 miles from Land’s End, Penzance in the most South-West point of England is Cornwall's largest and most westerly borough. Here an international doctor’s family of four (User name Tamsin) with two girls (4 and a baby) and two dogs who has just moved to Cornwall from abroad is looking for a calm, organized Granny Aupair with driving license to help them get settled, as the father works abroad from time to time and the mother has shifts at the local hospital. The family also has a local nanny to help three afternoons a week. If the Granny could also speak French or even Dutch that would be perfect but of course that is not the priority. A lovely room or even a small apartment (which still has to be decorated) is waiting for the Granny. The travel costs will be taken over in part.

The Heart of the States

The White House, the Capitol, exciting museums and beautiful park landscapes - you can discover all this in Washington D.C.. In the exciting American capital a small French-American family with the user name Jean P. is looking for an open and warmhearted Granny with driving licence as soon as possible. The single father and his two elder children (boy 15 and girl 13) are joined every second weekend by the two younger children (boy 9 and girl 7). The father is away for two weeks every three months. As the children are at school until 15:00 in the afternoon, the Granny would have enough time to take language lessons or discover America’s exciting capital. A nice room in large house on the outskirts will be made available for the Granny. Travel expenses will be taken over completely.

What kind of Visa?

Unfortunately there is no special Granny Aupair visa yet. If you travel to a country that requires a visa, you cannot officially do so as an au pair. Aupair visas can only be issued to women up to around 28 years of age! 

Since the founding of Granny Aupair in 2010 we have been fighting for a change in the age limits for au pairs and have already made representations to various national and international authorities and institutions. So far the authorities unfortunately see no need for action. We very much hope that something will finally be set in motion regarding this age-discriminating and outdated legislation (as a rule, the laws date from the 1960s!). For travel within the European Union you do not need a visa and can travel with your identity card or passport.  For destinations outside the European Union you definitely need a passport. You can find out whether you need a visa for your destination, how to obtain it and how much it costs for instance on the embassy website of the country you want to travel to.
