This Sunday, October 11th, we celebrate Grandmother’s Day in Germany.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to honor all the amazing women who enrich families with their time, experience, and warmth.

Grandparents are celebrated around the world, too – just on different days: in Italy on October 2nd, in France on the first Sunday in March, in Poland on January 21st, and in Australia on the last Sunday in October. In the U.S., Grandparents Day is celebrated in September.

Different dates, one shared message: grandparents are truly special, wherever you are in the world.

Our tip

• Send lots of contact requests! If you like the profiles of certain Grannies but their length of stay or arrival date doesn’t quite match your expectations, go ahead and contact them anyway. Things may have changed for the Grannies, or they may be looking to stay with several families in succession. Many things are negotiable, and there’s no harm in asking!
• Always reply to contact requests you receive. If you’ve already found a Granny or aren’t quite sure whether a particular candidate is the right fit, simply send a few words in response – even if you have to decline. This way, the Granny won’t be left waiting for an answer or wondering why she hasn’t heard back.  

• You’ll find many more helpful tips for host families on our website.
