The combination of limited childcare options and rising costs means that grandparents today are taking on more childcare responsibilities than ever before. Some even retire early to support their children and help care for their grandchildren so they can continue working – provided they live nearby. After all, there can often be many miles or even countries between the generations.

That’s why many families are delighted when an experienced pair of hands is there to help – like the four families we’d like to introduce to you below.

As a Granny Aupair, you have the wonderful opportunity to discover a new place, become part of a family’s everyday life and perhaps even learn a new language – all while enjoying free room and board.

Fishing Village on the Breton Coast

The coastal village of Locquirec is located on a small peninsula in Lannion Bay on the north Breton coast in France. This seaside resort, framed by white sandy beaches, is known for its water sports and recreational activities.

As soon as possible, a small American-French family (mother, her 3-year-old daughter, and 83-year-old grandmother)—whose user name is Lisac—would like to welcome an empathetic, loving, and reliable Granny Aupair with a driver’s license as a new member of the family, someone who might also enjoy cooking. The three-generation household would greatly appreciate the support, especially since the mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and will soon need to undergo treatment.

Little Louise is at preschool/kindergarten every day until late afternoon, so the Granny would have plenty of time to explore the beautiful surroundings. The Granny will be provided with her own small apartment next to the family’s house or, alternatively, a room with a private bathroom right in the house. Travel expenses will be fully covered.

Nature Reserve in the Île-de-France

And further south in France, just 28 kilometres from Paris and not far from Versailles, lies the small town of Saint-Lambert-des-Bois in the Île-de-France region. Surrounded by historic monuments and idyllic countryside, the Vallée de Chevreuse offers plenty to discover.
Here, a multilingual and musical doctor’s family of four— (user name: Laventure Florence)—with a 12-year-old girl, a 9-year-old boy, and a cat is looking forward to welcoming a flexible, experienced temporary grandma with a driver’s license.
They would especially appreciate a Granny who can stay for a longer period.. Both children are in school until late afternoon.
A beautiful, spacious room with a private bathroom in a large house in a rural setting awaits the Granny. Travel expenses will be covered in full.

Capital of the Single-Star-State

Austin, the capital of the so called „Single Star“ US-State of Texas also calls itself the „live music capital of the world“ due to its strong roots in country, blues and soul. With plenty of interesting neighbourhoods to explore, the metropolis offers a vibrant arts and culture scene as well as fantastic outdoor adventures.

Here an Englisch-German-speaking family of five (user name Shanepettito) with three sons (8, 5, and 3 years old) is looking for a loving and patient „bonus grandma“, as a new family member, especially to give the mother a bit of a hand.

The boys are homeschooled but also do activities like choir outside the home. A nice room in a large house in an outlying district of Austin is available for the Granny. The travelling costs will be taken over in full.

Historic Town in the Heart of Germany

A largely intact old city centre, grand buildings lining beautiful squares and a lively cultural and culinary scene characterize the town of Halle, the birth place of the composer Handel.  Near Halle you can find the small town of Teutschenthal surrounded by hills and lakes.

As from November 1st, a small bilingual family (mother, nearly 3-year old son and a baby as from December plus dog) with the user name Cordula D. would love to welcome a patient, loving Granny Aupair with a driving licence,  to give the mother some support, especially when the baby has arrived. The family speaks German and English, as the mother lived in the UK for nearly 20 years.
The grandparents also share the house, but are not able to participate in childcare, as the grandmother mainly looks after the grandfather, who has dementia. The little boy attends nursery until 15:00 each day, so help driving him there and back would be appreciated.

A lovely room in a large house in a rural area is waiting for the Granny. The travel costs will be taken over in part.
