Newsletter Grannies - What to expect as a Granny Aupair

Dear Ladies,

Today we’d like to give you a few tips to help ensure your expectations for your time as a Granny Aupair are met as far as possible. The families‘ profiles already provide a lot of useful information. If you’re not keen on a hectic lifestyle, then a family with three young children – and perhaps pets as well – is probably not the right fit for you. In that case, you’d be better off looking for families with one (older) child.

Can you keep yourself occupied easily (important if the family lives further out or in the countryside), or do you prefer a lively environment? Do you prefer city or country life, or would you simply like to try something completely new? You should bear these points in mind too.

It is very important to discuss everything in detail beforehand. Before you make a final decision on a family, talk about your working hours, free time, any pocket money, etc. – in other words, all the things that are important to you. The better informed you are when you start your Granny Aupair adventure, the less likely you are to encounter any unpleasant surprises.

Below, we introduce you to two families from near and far who are looking for a temporary grandma or companion, either soon or in the future. You can find many more families on our online community.

Very best wishes from

Your Michaela Hansen and your Granny Aupair-Team

Pearl of the Costa del Sol: Companion needed

From Cabopino to Guadalmina, Marbella on Spain’s Costa del Sol offers a 26-kilometre stretch of beautiful coastline with a series of stunning beaches. Added to this is the typical Andalusian charm, with whitewashed houses and orange trees adorning the streets and squares.

Near Marbella, on the edge of the woods, an 86-year-old Spanish- and German-speaking widow (user name Erika W.) with several dogs would like to welcome an animal- and nature-loving companion with a driving licence to go for walks together, chat, cook, play board games and much more.

A lovely room with a private bath awaits the Granny in a large house with a pool and sauna. Travel expenses will be fully covered.

Mountains and Beaches in Southern USA

Stunning mountains to serene beaches and breathtaking views can be discovered in the so called US_“Tarheel State“ North Carolina.

In the the state capital  of Raleigh, with its many museums as well as cultural and culinary highlights a small family (father and 14 year old daughter) with the user name July is looking for a  reliable, calm, (teen-) experienced Granny Aupair with a driving license as from September 1st.

The German father and daughter are relocating to Raleigh due to work reasons for about a year, mother and son are staying in Germany. It would also be great if the Granny could take over some of the housework and ideally stay for a longer period.

The family is still looking for a home in the suburbs, but the Granny will have a room with private bath. The travel costs will be taken over completely.

No one likes being left in the lurch at short notice. We would ask you to think carefully before agreeing to help a family, to make sure you are actually available at that time. The families are counting on you!
