Dear Reader, dear Grannies,

A large number of Granny Aupair families are so-called "intercultural families", for whom it is important that their children have access to the values and traditions of their countries or cultures of origin. Their original language or mother tongue is an essential part of this, so that the children can find access to the roots of the both partners‘ cultures.

The issue becomes even more important when the children go to a local or international school and spend most of their free time in a different language environment. The challenge is also great when, for example, English is not even the only language spoken within the family - namely when multilingual families go abroad.

Granny Aupairs can help especially in view of language, but also regarding the teaching of traditions, by engaging with the children in as many ways as possible and thereby consolidating the language through play. This is best done through repetitive patterns in a variety of situations – playing games, doing handicrafts, singing, etc. In return, a Granny Aupair has the unique opportunity to explore the way of life in a different environment – whether abroad or in an intercultural family in her own country – and possibly also to learn the language, with free board and lodging in the family. There are so many good reasons to take the plunge! 

Seize the opportunity to go above and beyond yourself by becoming a temporary grandma in young families and, in some cases, bringing a little bit of home to them in a foreign environment. Today we are once again introducing you to three families who would welcome the support of a lovely temporary grandparent in the near future.

City of dreaming Spires 

The historic university city of Oxford, also known as "city of dreaming spires", is just an hour's train journey from London. As well as being home to Britain's oldest university, Oxford also boasts beautiful botanical gardens, gothic spires, listed buildings and idyllic waterways.

In a picturesque village just outside Oxford, a Czech-English family (username Marie123) with two sons (12 and 7 plus dog) are looking for an experienced, flexible Granny Aupair, with a driving licence and safe driving skills. The boys go to school until 15:00 or 16:00, so the Granny would have enough time for herself and to explore the lovely surroundings. A nice room with private bathroom in a large house in a rural area will be provided. Travelling expenses will be covered in part.

Swedish West Coast  

Sweden's second largest city, the metropolis of Gothenburg on the west coast, is known for its relaxed atmosphere. The many parks, gardens and nearby forests are just as much a part of the cityscape as the harbour, the canals and the nearby archipelago islands.  

Here a Swedish-German family of three with a two-year-old daughter (user name Henric) would like to welcome a committed, loving and experienced temporary granny, who also enjoys cooking as a new family member. The little girl is in the crèche until 16:30, so the Granny would have enough time to explore the wonderful surroundings and/or take a language course. A large room with a private bathroom in a spacious house in the city centre awaits the Granny. Travelling expenses will be covered in part.

New York, New York! 

A world-famous skyline, the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan, Times Square, Broadway and much more are waiting to be discovered by you in the exciting American metropolis.

In the beautiful suburb of Scarsdale to the north of the Big Apple, a small doctor’s family (mum and a two-year-old twin couple) with the user name AlmaS would like to welcome a loving, experienced temporary grandma from the beginning of September, who ideally also enjoys cooking. The twins will be going to nursery school until the afternoon as from September, so the Granny would have plenty of time to discover the exciting surroundings. A nice room with private bathroom in a house right next to the park will be provided. All travelling expenses will be covered.
