Dear family,

Father, mother, children, grandma, grandpa - and all living together under one roof: This type of living is uncommon nowadays, but is still a dream for many families. This is shown by figures of the polling institute YouGov who recently questioned 2,000 German citizens about this. Accordingly, 44 percent would like to live with several generations. The advantages are obvious: flexible childcare, shared experiences, learning from each other and much more. For many families, however, this will remain wishful thinking, which cannot easily come true, as the grandparents of the family often live far away or unfortunately are no longer alive.

A temporary Granny from Granny Aupair puts multigenerational living within reach: The au pair Granny not only looks after the children, but is practically a family member. You can go about your job with an easy mind, whilst knowing your children in good hands. Our Grannies are life-experienced capable women, who know something about nearly every problem relating to children, be it babies teething or a teenager’s broken heart.

At the moment around 80 Grannies are looking for a nice family whom they can support. It is worth it to plan ahead, as many of our temporary Grannies are looking for a family for the next year, like Granny Brigitte or Granny Heidemarie, whom we want to introduce you to below.

Musical and open-minded

Granny Brigitte (user name Brigitte C.), who loves singing and writing stories, would like to travel to an English- or German-speaking country as from January 2017. The 60 year old former multilingual administrative assistant would love to help convey the German language.  The mother of two adult children writes short stories and does volunteer work. The open-minded and independent Granny is looking forward to meet a nice family on an eye-to-eye level.

Active and patient

Granny Heidemarie (user name heidigernand) would also love to get to know a family in an English-speaking country as from February 1st 2017. The sporty Granny, who loves travelling is also a keen hiker among other hobbies. The 66 year old former restaurant owner and granny of a six year old girl would love to repeat her good experiences she had as a young au pair. She is looking forward to get to know another country and a nice family once more.

Please keep in mind that our Granny Aupairs need a little more preparation time than a young au pair, as they have to put a few more things in order for their stay abroad than a "spring chicken", where parents still take care of "house and hearth". Of course there are also Grannies, who are very spontaneous and can leave immediately. In general, however, it is advisable to look for a Granny Aupair in good time, so that both sides have enough time to prepare.

 

 

The good soul for your family

A Granny should be treated like a member of the family, as a temporary grandmother. She does not want to be treated like a home help. Your temporary granny does not want to work hard for 8 hours a day. The Granny can help with house work for instance, look after the children and speak to them in her mother tongue, help with homework, prepare food, bring and fetch the children to nursery school and school. In addition the Granny should have enough leisure time to spend this according to her wishes and ideas.
